Great news. O2 Its Your Community has awarded Seaton Ross Playing Fields Association £700, to assist with the purchase of new benches. As many of your are aware, the playing fields are not council owned, and fund raising is required to pay for the annual costs & maintenance. So an award to invest in the future of the playing fields is good news.
Plus earlier in the year, an award of £850 was granted to the Parish Council for a new notice board for the village plot. The aim is to have a map show of the village showing footpaths and places of interest. Help an eye out in the spring for the new notice board being installed.
Its Your Community is a national community based award scheme funded by O2 which enables people to make a difference in their local community. Its Your Community is assessed and judged by the Conservation Foundation, who independently administrate the scheme on behalf of O2. Over 1000 projects have been given out since launching in July 2007 of between £100 and £1000.

For every Creme Egg bought, entrants can choose a clue to one of the eggs hidden through the village, or an Easter Quiz sheet, with a chance to win the star prize.

The Seaton Ross Feast Day for 2007 was a great day with all sorts of things going on that not even the Great British Summer weather could spoil (though it did try hard at times).
The worst of the rain seemed to come during the It's A Knockout contest but as most of the participants were being liberally hosed with water pistols throughout the games the rain didn't seem to matter. The trophy was eventually claimed by 'The Old Gimmers' team whose victory over last years Football contest winning team 'Geared Up' was hotly contested.
Feel free to check out some pictures from the day by clicking here.
In the 70s it was must watch family TV for Friday nights. Well Seaton Ross is going bring their own version of It’s a Knockout to the Feast this year. Anyone out there fancy their luck? We promise there will be water, obstacle courses and our very own Stuart Hall.
We are looking for 4 teams of 5-6 people, each team member must be over 16 years of age, so if you are interested please contact us and your details will be passed on to the organisers. Entry is charged at £20 per team (to contribute to the cost of the equipment) and we hope the teams will enter the fun spirit with a comical team name and fancy dress (optional).
Events for this year include:
We are also looking for people to help on the day and for teams to take part in the 'It's a Knockout' competition. Teams of 5 adults (aged 16 and over).
Further information will be given in the Seaton Ross Times including categories for Handicraft entries.
For more information please contact Gail, Martin or any member of the Feast Committee.
'Ginnie' contacted us via the web site form to pass on some disturbing news about an outbreak of a disease that appears to be affecting the local garden bird population - specifically Greenfinches, Chaffinches and Collared Doves.
Trichomoniasis, as it is known, can affect the birds' swallowing and breathing among other symptoms and so can prove to be fatal. Indeed, Ginnie told us "We've had eight dead Greenfinches and a lot of sick birds in the garden within the last two weeks."
The good news is that the parasite that causes the disease can be eradicated by regular cleaning and disinfecting of bird feeding stations. However, as the birds are likely to use many such feeding areas within the village we should all make and effort to help wipe out this disease.
Apparantly, there has been little coverage of this problem in the national media but more information can be found on www.bto.org/gbw/NEWS/disease_outbreak.htm (a link provided by Ginnie) and in this PDF document from www.birdfood.co.uk.
Summer 2006 sees the launch of this new Seaton Ross website. The website is designed to provide information about the village, and about activities and events taking place.
Please let us know if there is anything you would like to see included, if there is anything missing, or even if we have made a mistake with any of the information already on the site.
If you run a club, an event or a local business in the village then please contact us via the link on the left and we will include your details on the site.
